Setup and Configuration

  1. Note: Newsbin Professional is not free software. You can download it and use it for 10 days for free (see their website for more details), but if you want to continue using the program after the 10 day Free Trial is over, you must purchase the program.
  2. Install Newsbin Pro. Once installation is finished, run the program (you will be prompted to do so once the installation is finished).
  3. You will now be taken through the first steps to set up Newsbin Professional:
    1. Click Next to begin.
    2. Enter news.supernews.com as your Server Address.
    3. Check the checkbox next to Authentication Required and then enter your Username and Password (remember, they are case-sensitive).
    4. Click Next.
    5. Click Finish to complete your set up.
  4. Newsbin Professional will now connect to the server with 2 connections (we allow up to 4, but Newsbin Professional selects 2 by default).
  5. Once the main window is open, click on the Groups button at the top. From the pop-up window, click on Update Groups From Server. This will load the newsgroup list from the servers (note: This is the same menu you would use to reload or refresh your newsgroup list).
  6. To subscribe to newsgroups, from the same Groups pop-up window, select the specific newsgroup you want by clicking on the checkbox next to it. You can use the field above the list to filter your results (for example, looking for comp.* newsgroups, you would enter "comp." and click Search. When finished subscribing to the newsgroups you want, click OK.
  7. In the top-left window you will see the newsgroups you have selected. To update all of the newsgroups in your list, you can select Update All newsgroups from the Groups menu at the top. Or, if you want to update each one individually, you can right-click on each newsgroup and select Download latest or Download All Headers. You can also select Download Special.. to select a specific number of headers to download.
  8. There are additional configuration options in the Options... menu, if you wish to change them. You can also sort your newsgroups in categories (i.e. "Music" or "Movies", etc.) - they're all placed in "Unsorted" by default after you've first subscribed.
